Attendance Policy

Class attendance is a mandatory requirement of the course. Registers of attendance will be kept. The minimum required attendance to ensure timely completion of each course is 85 per cent. However we expect 100% attendance from our students on the basis that it is time well spent.

Full-time students who are absent for more than 10 sessions from their classes without acceptable mitigating circumstances will be deemed to be ineligible for the award.

Attendance monitoring is done every week throughout each term. A separate monitoring sheet is created for each student.

* If a student is continually absent from their lectures, the lecturer must give the student’s attendance register to the Academic Administrator, who will then notify the Registrar.

* The Registrar will contact the student, usually by letter, and find out the reason for the student’s absence.

* In case of sickness, the student is advised to contact St. Patrick’s College as soon as possible. The receptionist will contact the lecturer about the student’s illness on that day. The lecturer will mark the student with an ‘S’ (sick) in the register.

* If a student has been sick for three days or more, the student must provide a medical certificate signed by their doctor.

* The student will be issued a warning for non-attendance (if it’s not a medical problem) before the UKBA is notified of the student’s continual non-attendance.

* The student cannot use the excuse of having to work.

* If they are reported, the student could have a major problem when extending their student visa. The  UKBA has a ‘no tolerance’ policy for students abusing their study time. The College will not be able to help the student; as an adult, the student is considered responsible for their attendance while they are studying in the United Kingdom.
