Essential Skills
Essential Skills are the basic competences that students require in order to ensure that they derive the maximum benefit from their substantive courses at St Patrick’s. St Patrick’s Essential Skills courses combine advanced English Language tuition with other key competences such as Academic Language Skills, Study Skills and Cultural Studies, which help students to maximise their learning potential.
Essential Skills is a compulsory unit for all new first year students at St Patrick’s, and there are specific programmes for students at postgraduate level.
The School of Essential Skills provides language support and pastoral care to all students for the duration of their studies at St Patrick’s. The tutors are friendly and approachable, and are always ready to help students improve their academic performance.
