School of Technology

Computers and computing are exciting fields of study and practice. The computer has become a necessary tool in the office, in the school, in the home and in every field of business. The development of computer systems and the interconnection of computer devices, especially with the rapid growth of the Internet, has become a vital factor in a modern society.

In the School of Technology we aim to capture something of that excitement and feed it into the learning environment. The lecturers who are charged with that responsibility are professional in their approach and dedicated to ensuring that students rise to their potential and are given the best study experience that the college can provide.

Computing and computer networking is studied from two key approaches; software engineering and network engineering & telecommunication systems. We therefore offer students two distinct study pathways.

Pathway one: Information systems engineering, which focuses on the development and application of software tools and computer programming.

Pathway two: Network engineering and telecommunications systems, which focuses on the networking of computerised information (voice, video, data) and the transport of that information over global communication networks.

Lecturers are highly qualified in their individual disciplines and can back up their knowledge with real life experience from the world of business and industry.

The School of Technology in collaboration with a partner university offers students a real opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification which will provide them with an entrance into a lifelong and worthwhile career. The learning experience is aimed at developing the confidence and maturity of each student as they gain in knowledge and breadth of understanding of the interrelated disciplines that together form a highly valued qualification.

We are confident that students who embark on a programme of study with the School of Technology at St Patrick's will be rewarded with a learning experience of richness and enjoyment, with a significantly increased knowledge and understanding of software engineering/network engineering and the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification.
