St Patrick’s students hold product launch for their HND in Hospitality Management

23 February 2018

Four groups of students involved in the module worked in teams to create, design, and launch different products with marketing campaigns and websites of their own design. The presentation took place in the auditorium at St Patrick’s College in front of lecturers and students from other programmes, supporting their colleagues to evaluate the presentation and give feedback as customers. On Thursday 22 February students from the HND in Hospitality Management held a product presentation and launch, as part of their first year module in Marketing for the Hospitality Industry.

The scenario for the presentation allowed them to choose between different products, launch, and then promote them using various techniques. Some of the students organised food sampling and live music to pitch their ideas, whilst others streamed a video to showcase their company’s labelled water bottle.

Swati Dabas, Lecturer at St Patricks’ Hospitality School who coordinated the students, spoke about the importance of engaging students in this initiative: “There are many skills involved in creating and launching a new product from scratch, abilities that students learn during their studies and have to be able to apply later on in their career.

The project was part of the Marketing for the Hospitality Industry programme, which aims to introduce students to the key concepts and functions of marketing as they apply to jobs in the service industries, including hospitality, travel, tourism, sports, leisure, and recreation. This will give students knowledge and understanding of the key factors affecting marketing environments, and allow them to investigate the role of marketing in different sectors of relevant service industries.

“The idea was also to celebrate student’s success and the effort they put into this event. This experience was helpful for the other students who attended as well, showcasing the project-based learning technique we use to incorporate all the skills required in the workplace in the teaching process,” said Mrs Dabas.
