St Patrick’s students visit Maritime Greenwich

Last Friday, students from St Patrick's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management students went on a field trip to Maritime Greenwich (a UNESCO World Heritage site) as part of their Travel and Tourism assignment for this term.

Students toured the area, working on a survey of the components of tourism in Greenwich. They collected information on visitor attractions, accommodation providers, transport operators, meetings and events venues, the hospitality and retail sectors, and travel trade and media.

At the end of the tour, Greenwich Tourism Information Centre Manager Ales Kosejk gave a talk to the students. He explained his role and the numerous partnerships that contribute to the tourist experience.

Students were then invited to ask questions, giving them the opportunity to understand how much tourism generates to the economy, the job opportunities available in the sector, and the 2014-2018 Destination Management Plan that is currently underway for the area.

Ales said: “I did enjoy getting out of my office and was pleased with students’ enthusiasm and interest for the industry”.

Lecturer and Unit Leader Regine Block said: “This was a good way to provide a good insight of how various organisations and businesses work in partnership for the success of a destination, with students benefiting from a rich and valuable discussion with a professional in the tourism sector.”
