Productivity is one of the most important factors when it comes to making the most out of your time, especially when having to juggle studying with a hectic lifestyle. The key to successfully being more productive is not working hard but working smart. Here are some tips on how you can transform your studying time.

Although both important, being productive is more about focusing on managing your energy, rather than managing your time. By recognising at what point of the day you are more alert, you can block out those times to sit down and study. This is beneficial so you do not exhaust yourself and so that you get the most out of your studying session, which can only be done if you aren’t trying to grasp at little bits of energy and force yourself to work when you are tired.

You should make sure you get enough sleep every night and try not to overwork yourself. Lack of sleep can take its toll, and it can affect your health. Generally, when tired, we become more negative and less willing to do work, our concentration levels are extremely low and we don’t take in information like we should. You will also be more susceptible to getting ill, as your body gets worn down from lack of sleep, so make sure you are getting enough hours of sleep every night!

Know what type of learner you are. You may be a tactile, visual or auditory learner. If you take the time to find out how you study best, then you can store information more easily. You will spend less time and energy going over and over the same documents you need to study, and you will be able to learn more things.

During your study session

Once you learn how to store information, and know when you are more alert during the day, focus on how to produce the best results. However, just those two things alone are not enough to help you study. Say no to distractions! If your family keeps you from getting any work done, find a quiet space where you will not be interrupted. If you keep looking at your phone and check your likes, turn it off. You can survive without it for one hour!

It is also important to take a short break every now and then, to allow yourself to re-energise your mind and regain focus. Whenever you are tired and lacking sleep, trying to cram in too much information at the same time will not be beneficial as your brain will stop processing what you are trying to learn. Therefore, breaks are needed. Drink plenty of water and have healthy snacks such as fruits and nuts during to give your brain more fuel.

An extra tip to help you with your study session is to make a timetable of your day. By doing so, you can make sure you include time for your important tasks, but you can also dedicate a small chunk of your day to your study. After that, make a to-do list for the things you need to study and research so you can stay on top of what needs to be completed (extra bonus for the satisfaction that ticking off tasks can bring). Be realistic with your time and what you have to do but make sure you also stick to it, instead of pushing things back for another day.
