Barts Health NHS Trust

St Patrick’s College is working in partnership with Barts Health  NHS Trust Volunteers. Volunteers provide practical help to patients and visitors, complementing the work of paid staff across the Trust. Barts Health NHS Trust Volunteers help provide extra support.

If you are interested in volunteering at Barts Health NHS Trust, please check their webpage for updates about applications or ask your student experience team for help.

We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the healthcare they need.

The Royal London in Whitechapel is a major teaching hospital providing local and specialist services in state-of-the-art facilities. Whipps Cross in Leytonstone is a large general hospital with a range of local services. Newham in Plaistow is a busy district hospital with innovative facilities such as its orthopaedic centre. Mile End hospital is a shared facility in Mile End for a range of inpatient, rehabilitation, mental health and community services. And St Bartholomew’s in the City, London’s oldest hospital, is a regional and national centre of excellence for cardiac and cancer care.

Work with us

If you are able to regularly volunteer for us, we have a range of unpaid roles within all our hospitals and our 800 volunteers who help us every day in many different roles. We simply could not do all that we do without our wonderful team of volunteers who donate their time and help us to offer safe and compassionate care for our patients.

Whether you would like to gain more experience in a large, busy hospital or get out in the community, we are certain to find a role to suit you. The range of opportunities means many of our staff have an entire career based in one trust.

For us, every day is different, and with 2.5 million patients coming from all walks of life and speaking more than 60 languages, that’s hardly surprising. Our patients are at the heart of everything we do and we are committed to ensuring that people living in east London live healthy lives.
